Q & A with Laura Rumple

This month we are delighted to be granted an audience with Vocology in Practice Authorized Instructor, Laura Rumple. This year Laura celebrates ten years with ViP and has earned our Silver Badge.

Where do you teach?

I teach online and in person at my studio “The Singers Spotlight ” in Mooresville North Carolina, USA.

Fill in the blank: “Singing is …..”

Our expression of life.

What is one accomplishment (big or small) you are proud of as a coach?

I have recently been on  a very heartening journey working with one singer who faced the challenge of a vocal injury.  Over time I have coached and supported her back to recovery, and I am delighted to say she has recently signed with a major record label UMG. I’m super proud of this.

Is there a tool, mindset, or strategy you’ve embraced that has made a
positive impact on your studio or clients?

I personally resonate deeply with the mindset that anybody has the possibility available to them to develop their singing voice. My strategy is simply to help them take the next step closer to that.

What drew you to become a ViP member?

The level of excellence across the members, and the concept of continuous education from industry professionals.

What has been your favourite EdHub presentation so far? What particularly interested you about it, or what did you learn from it?

I really enjoyed Angelika Nair’s  “Tongue Secrets Revealed.”

Which of our 7 Principles resonate with you most and why?

The majority of my work revolves around voice science and vocal pedagogy because the main reason clients come to me is because they want to sing well.

Do you have a coaching speciality?

Outside of my obsession with voice science is taking my clients forwards with their artistry with song writing workshops, performing opportunities and recording experiences.

Are there any particular areas of interest or research about voice that you love discussing?

Movement and how it influences our sound.

Tell us a funny fact about yourself.

Believe it or not, my first real passion was training horses and somehow I’ve ended up training singers. I won’t mention the ways I find them similar.

Do you also perform? If so do you have anything to share about some of the things you have been up to recently?

Yes, I am releasing my 6th album this spring with ten of my own originals.

Is there anything new or exciting happening for you that you would like us to share or promote?

Nothing that needs promoting. (I have over 300 active clients, so I’m not looking for more.) But, I’ve just hired an additional teacher at my studio and I’m thrilled about all they will bring to my students.

Are any of your clients (past or present) enjoying commercial success?

Yes I have had several clients who have gone on to sign with record labels, become independent recording artists and become teachers themselves. I’m always their biggest fan in all of their achievements.

Is there anything you would like to ask of your fellow ViP members?

I am always looking for other professionals who can enrich the development of my students. I also offer  a program called “How to Perform Like a Pro” and I regularly have industry professionals coach my students on various ways they can improve their artistry and performance. I’m eager to make your acquaintance if we have not already  worked together, and you feel you can offer something unique.
